Evolution Gaming Shuts Down Netent Live Studios
The employees of renowned iGaming software developer NetEnt AB are facing a period of uncertainty after the company’s recent acquisition by Evolution Gaming. The new owners have announced plans for a major organizational restructure, which may result in several job cuts.
According to reports from the Times of Malta, the Stockholm-listed firm was acquired by its compatriot for $2.12 billion. As part of this deal, Evolution Gaming has decided to close down NetEnt’s live casino studios in Qormi, putting the jobs of these employees at risk.
A New Chapter Begins
With over 1,000 employees worldwide and a recent expansion into live dealer casinos, NetEnt AB seemed to be on a path towards success. However, with Evolution Gaming already operating nine live casinos and blackjack rooms in the region, this outcome was predicted by industry experts.
The Government’s Response
The merger between Evolution and NetEnt was approved by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority back in September. The Ministry for the Economy, Investments, and Small Businesses is now discussing options to support those affected by the restructuring effort.
The government has also set up a helpline for individuals at risk of losing their jobs to register on JobsPlus training and employment platform. A statement from the Ministry reads, “While Evolution Gaming has shown a strong commitment to the local economy, the government is working with all parties involved to ensure a smooth transition for those who may be laid off. Additional support and job-matching services are also being provided through JobsPlus.”
